Went off to Highgate Ostrich farm for a most entertaining morning learning all about ostriches. We last went there about 30 years ago. In 2012 the ostriches contracted some disease and they all had to be destroyed, consequently the farm went bung after having been in the family for about 100 years. There are new owners who have changed it from a show farm to a working farm. They also raced two ostriches for us. We were fortunate in that the new seasons chicks had hatched so saw them, very cute. The gardens have a large variety of flowering cacti.
Drove back to Carlitzdorp where there are quite a few wine estates. Did a tasting and had a lovely lunch in the vineyards at De Krans. We really loved their wine so ordered 7 cases to be delivered home!! We also stopped off at Boplaas for a brandy tasting.
As it is holiday season we were lucky that Oppi Dam had a cancellation so we are back there for the night.
