What a day. Apart from loads of sheep and cattle we saw many Jackal Buzzards and Crested Cranes. We thought New Zealand scenery was spectacular but this certainly gives it a run for its money. We followed the snow capped Drakensberg into the Eastern Cape along the shortest route (mostly dirt via Underberg, Swartberg, Matatiele, Mount Fletcher then up the front of the berg) which was rough, and the drive scarier than Sani pass, in our opinion. We drove through snow, ice and mud (along cliff edges).. thank goodness we were in a Landcruiser.
We realised the drive was well worth it once we arrived at Tenahead Lodge. What a spoil. Beautiful accommodation surrounded by snow. (Heater, electric blanket and fire in our room) Have just enjoyed a wonderful 5 course meal.
