Drove into the Park today and were very impressed with the improvements done to roads and facilities. The most important being, that they have fixed all the watering hole pumps so the animals now have water. Our last visit we saw dead Eland everywhere due to broken pumps and we were told it is also because they drink too much of the mineral rich water which they are not used to in Botswana where they migrated from.
The herds of Springbok and Wildebeest have increased so have the Gemsbok, Squirrels, Ostriches and Giraffe. The birds are wonderful having identified at least 30 different species and at least 2 firsts for us, the Red-necked Falcon and the Scaley feathered Finches and hundreds of Redheaded Finches drinking at the water holes. The Sociable Weavers nests are so big in some trees that a combination of weight and age, the branches break.
We weren't able to get accommodation in the Park again tonight so returned to our wonderful site at Kgalagdi Lodge to another evening of glamping. It was a beautiful evening and braaied with Camelthorn wood which makes a good fire.
They have a resident Emu who strolls around the grounds.
We got to speak to the Supervisor of Nossop and after a lot of begging and pleading he is allowing is to camp their tomorrow evening despite them being fully booked.
The entrance to the Park has also been upgraded to include SA and Botswana Border Controls together in one new building. They have their own diesel tank as they are in the process of building a garage. They also have a compressor available for adjusting your tyre pressure.
