A lot of rafting companies operate from this section of the river(note the 1 pic of the Old Bedford truck and canoes, advertising).
The border post on the SA side was fine for a change, but I can't say the same for the Namibian side. They were shocking. The female at immigration carried on looking at her computer (maybe checking her Facebook!) for at least 5 mins before she, without looking up said, ..passports!
We then got to the gate and got asked about every beer, cooldrink, bottle of water, tin of food etc. that we were carrying and the cost of it!! I think we could write a book on African border posts staff attitude and sense of authority!..They leave a lot to be desired!!
Once again we deviated from our plan as Gavin from The Growcery told us about Canon Roadhouse en route to The Fish River Canyon, which was amazing..an oasis in the desert. It is a road house in a huge warehouse with a collection of at least 20-30 vintage scrap cars and lorries, signs, number plates, restaurant, shop etc.. What character...We loved it and really had to drag ourselves away after having lunch there.
Arrived at Hobas camp which now has lovely new ablutions, but would be nice if they planted some grass..but I suppose that is asking a bit much in this arid area.(R158+R65 Park fee pp)
We drove along shocking corrugated dirt roads to the various lookout points of the Fish River Canyon and watched the sun set.It truly is amazing.

Great photos - some look like paintings. I would have loved the growcery - looks like an amazing place. XX
