7 Sept - Richterveld (Kokerbooomkloof) to Luderitz

Had a good night's sleep although it was a bit cooler than at the river. It is our 42nd wedding anniversary. Headed off via Hellskloof to Senderlingsdrift border post. Once again had fantastic scenery of mountains and aloes that only grow in the Richtersveld and are red in colour. Even came across a few flowers on the desert..don't know how they manage to grow. Hellskloof was something else(note the name) some parts of the road are solid rock, but the Landcruiser sailed through without a problem. SA & Namibia Border control were great but the police on Namibia side searched every pocket, cupboard and Helen's handbag. Found nothing except he told Helen she is not allowed to take stones, there were two on the floor at her feet. They are concerned about diamond theft. They had a huge pile which had obviously been taken away from other travelers so Helen found some she liked and took those as well!!

On our way into Richterveld we stopped to help a young couple who had a blowout. They told us about a brilliant camp called Klein Aus. We arrived there at 17.00 to find bus loads of tourists and it completely booked out, camping, chalets and rooms. So rushed to the next closest town, Luderitz, 122 km away.
Found accommodation at Shark Island camp on the point.(R136pp) It has lovely views of the sea and the little harbour entrance. A bit cool and quite windy.
Found the only restaurant in town, The Ritzi's and had a great meal and a bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary.
Luderitz is full of German tourists.
The Western Cape had mainly Dutch tourists
